As the mother of two young boys, I understand the value and need of having quality education that is accessible to the families of our community. I will continue to be a strong advocate of providing our students and teachers with the educational, monetary and technological resources required to foster an innovative and world class educational system. All levels of education, from early childhood to postsecondary institutions, need to have the tools necessary to prepare the millennial generation for the highly competitive job market of the twenty-first century.
Taxes and the Economy
Our economy works best when it operates in a fiscally responsible manner. We deserve to have our hard-earned tax dollars spent in the most efficient and accountable way possible. I will further the fight to put control in our hands, where innovation and creativity are born.
In order to enable our community to prosper financially, I will remain committed to leading the fight in Tallahassee to protect your dollars and to reduce taxes so that you have the capital to confidently invest in the way that you see fit.
"We deserve to have our hard-earned tax dollars spent in the most efficient and accountable way possible."
In Florida, it is key that you continue to have a senator that prioritizes innovative healthcare and that ensures our elderly, children and physically disabled are cared for and protected. I will remain focused on discovering twenty-first century solutions to some of the most complex health issues facing our community, while at the same time ensuring that there is an accessible safety net for those families who need it. We must also be prepared to enable healthcare professionals to take care of those most in need. I will always keep the health of Floridians as a key priority and actively work to improve our state’s healthcare system.
As a legislator, I have worked to allow the free market to facilitate competition in the insurance market all the while making sure that rates remain sound and fair. Unfortunately, I know how much of an uphill battle that can be. I have personally dealt with the predatory take-out offers from unscrupulous companies and have fought actively towards reducing unfair premium hikes. There is still a need to further work with property insurance companies in order to ensure that their rates are affordable for those with limited resources. As your senator, I will stay focused on making sure that concerns particular to the area, such as flooding, are also adequately covered. It is by improving this aspect of property ownership that we can make buying and owning a property more feasible for our community.
"I will continue to work to make sure that concerns particular to the area, such as flooding, are also adequately covered."
Our community’s most precious natural resources and environment attract millions of visitors to our great state each year. For current and future Floridians, we must protect the environment. I will remain committed to making sure that our infrastructure, use of energy and business practices operate in a way that does not hinder the environment. We must continue to work closely with environmental and climate experts to assess what the state can do to address challenges such as sea level rise, in order to protect our homes, businesses and families. We must act today to ensure that our children and future generations have the opportunity to experience the beauty of South Florida.
South Dade is home to unique plant life and agricultural innovations. Our state must make sure that the concerns and needs of the agricultural community are well represented in Tallahassee. I will continue to support the agricultural community of South Dade so that they may remain a leading producer of tropical fruits, winter vegetables and many more other valued agricultural products. We must also work to facilitate the access to which our community is able to obtain such agricultural goods.

Tourism and the Arts
As a lifelong resident of District 39 and having served on the Florida Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee, I know firsthand the economic and cultural importance of the tourism sector. I firmly support the preservation and maintenance of cultural, environmental and historical sites, such as the Cuba Memorial in Southwest Miami-Dade, the Frost Art Museum at FIU, and the Seminole Theatre in Homestead. These and so many others are examples of the cultural inheritance found in our District. It is also important that we continue to actively support cultural community events, such as the many seafood and art festivals in the Keys. I remain committed to working with the tourism industry in order to make sure that they have the proper environment to preserve our cultural treasures for the enjoyment of locals and tourists.
